How to Apply False Lashes Like a Pro

Have you ever wanted long, lush lashes for a special occasion or event but were too afraid to attempt to apply false lashes yourself?  This guide to applying false lashes will help.  Follow these steps to achieve glamorous, professional looking lashes.

Before you get started, make sure you have the proper tools:

First, pick out your lashes. You can buy full sets for more dramatic looks or individual lashes for softer, everyday looks. There are MANY great brands out there: Make Up For Ever, MAC, Urban Decay, Ardell, NYX...to name just a few.

Next, you want to get eyelash glue. Many eyelash brands supply their own glue, but I have found that in MOST CASES the glue is dried up or doesn't work very well. I LOVE the DUO Lash Adhesive ($8, Sephora.com) and I always buy the dark tone version because I have dark hair. It dries black so it blends into the lashes.

Finally, you need a good set of tweezers. I love Tweezerman Tweezers ($20, Sephora.com) because they grab EVERYTHING. They're really handy for applying lashes as well...I love dual purpose items!

You always want to apply your lashes to the finished eye. In most cases your lashes can be re-used about 10 times if you take care of them. You typically don't want to apply mascara to them, so have your makeup and mascara complete before applying. Let's get started!

  1. If you're applying a full strip of lashes you may need to trim them to fit the width of your eye.
  2. Apply a thin amount of glue directly to the lash strip and let it sit for about 30 seconds so that it gets tacky. If you're using individual lashes you can apply a small dot of glue to your hand and dip the lash into it before applying.
  3. Once the lashes have a tacky feel to them, you're ready to begin application. Using the tweezers to hold the lashes, apply them as close to your lash line as possible. Hold them in place for about 30 seconds to allow them to dry.
  4. Once the glue is COMPLETELY dry, go back with liquid eyeliner to touch up the bare spots and even up the lines.

That's all there is to it! Now you can create fun and glamorous looks with lashes. There are some amazing brands out there with lashes that have everything from Swarovski crystals to feathers. The options are limitless so use your imagination!
